Dave Gray is an experienced veteran of the recording scenes of Houston, Toronto, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Over the past 20 years he has worked in all areas of the music business and specializes in producing, engineering, teaching and performing. Dave has performed as a drummer touring internationally with a variety of artists. He has also taught students from grade school to the university, graduate level and is on the cusp of earning his Doctorate degree in Ethnomusicology (specialization in audio recording and music production) from York University. He is a musician’s musician – a multi-instrumentalist steeped in both traditional music theory and cutting edge music technology. In the summer of 2013 he joined the faculty of the School of Media and Design at Conestoga College and in 2015 he joined the Film and TV Department at Sheridan College where he is teaching audio engineering for film, television and other broadcast formats.

In Dave’s classes, the most important objective is for students to gain an understanding of the concepts taught, and to be able to apply those ideas in their own work. With this in mind, it is Dave’s hope that the homework is seen as an opportunity to further the understanding of the concepts taught in class, while the “exams” should be a way for students to gauge what they need to focus on. Dave would like to foster the idea that getting a “wrong” or “right” answer on an exam is not the most important thing in his classes, but rather that the tests are a way for students to see what they need to focus on.
